Also known as Green Turtles, these are named for the greenish color of their cartilage and fat, not their shells. I never get tired of seeing these magnificent marine creatures that are often comfortable with your presence as they gently glide about the reef and feed. Once while diving the submerged pier structure at Mala Wharf on Maui, we counted more than 30 turtles around us and hidden in crevices.
